MPsy. (Clin.) Sanela Piralic Spitzl
Born 1969, migrated from Bihac (Bosnia-Hercegovina) to Vienna (Austria) back in 1995; works as a Clinical Psychologist and Psychotherapist at the Medical University of Vienna – Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy (since 2001). Her research expertise covers somatoform disorders (especially somatoform pain disorder), posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depressive disorder and migration-related mental health problems among migrants from Bosnia-Hercegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia (former Yugoslavia). Doctoral thesis: Transcultural Aspects of Somatoform Pain Disorder Among Migrants from the Former Yugoslavia And Group Therapy in Bosnian/Croatian/Montenegrin/Serbian Language. Ministerial Working Group Member on Mental Health Care Provision Re-orientation for Migrants with the Austrian Ministry of Health; coordinated the Vienna Breast Cancer Self Help Group for Bosn./Croat./Mont./Serb. Women from 2002 to 2004 and took part in the EU-Project Immigrant Sex Workers from European Eastern/Southern Borders: Health Risks, Social Condition, Re-orientation (from 2003 to 2004); Counselling and Lecturing with various NGOs.
