Studies: PhD (1999) in Modern China Studies at Free University Berlin, studied Modern China Studies, Sociology und Political Science (M.A. 1994) in Berlin and Taibei as well as Translation/Interpretation of Chinese (M.A. 1992); Scholarships granted by the German Accademic Exchange Foundation DAAD (Taiwan 1986-87; Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau 1994-95) and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation (Germany 1994-1997)
Professional career:
1990-2000: Interpreter and translator for Chinese
Since 2000: Research Fellow at the GIGA Institute of Asian Studies; responsibilities: PRC, foreign and security policies, socio-cultural change, Internet, migration
Editor of the "Journal of Current Chinese Affairs -China aktuell"Continuing research on Chinese migration since 1988
