National University of Ireland, Ph.D. in Sociology (1992).
My research to date has been concerned with gender and migration, religion, citizenship, nationalism and feminism, social movements. I have a particular interest in social networks and the ways in which migrants negotiate access to new networks in the host society as well as sustain existing transnational networks in the home country. I have also researched migrant health and well being, with a particular emphasis on depression. My work has been published in books and journals in the fields of Sociology, Health, Migration Studies, Social Policy, Ethnic Studies and Gender Studies.
