Learning Portal "The Unwanted"
The learning portal “The Unwanted” holds information and learning material on the correlation and aftermaths of flight, expulsion and “ethnic cleansing” in Europe of the 20th century.
It focuses mainly on personal memories from former refugees and expulsed people. With the help of their stories, photographs and other sources, such as documents and maps, these memories can be retraced and understood. Tasks help to work with these sources and enable an independent interpretation and categorisation of the contemporary witnesses.
The personal memories of the contemporary witnesses illuminate how the events of flight, expulsion, restart and return are dealt with. By doing so, experiences of forced migration from five regions can be compared with one another:
- Bosnia-Herzegovina in the 1990’s
- Germany and Poland in the 1940’s
- Greece and Turkey in the 1920’s.
